UGC STRATEGIC FOCUS

    To continue delivering value to our stakeholders, sustainability and green initiatives have always been in the forefront of Universiti Teknologi MARA planning. The university is committed and recognizes the need for a better future through its management and operations.

    UiTM Green Centre (UGC) pledges to promote green initiatives to transform the university into a sustainable green campus through its nine (9) strategic areas: sustainable green campus, sustainable roadmap, community engagement, sustainable knowledge hub, collaboration and industrial linkages, green initiatives, research and innovation, professional competency development and green talent development.

    SUSTAINABLE GREEN CAMPUS

    21 initiatives implemented and planned to be embarked in supporting UiTM in transforming as sustainable green campus. These project builds upon the work that UiTM Green Centre (UGC) is doing on localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and making the SDGs real to campus community.

    The initiatives covering the following themes:
    - Capacity building for low carbon campus
    - Sustainable Waste management in campus
    - Energy in buildings
    - Passive and low carbon transportation
    - Enhance water conservation and practice low-water landscape strategies in campus
    - Green lifestyle awareness.

    SUSTAINABLE KNOWLEDGE HUB

    In order to uphold the sustainability agenda especially during the pandemic of Covid-19 through webinar and social media awareness activities are a key channel of education to inculcate green lifestyle and best practices amongst campus community.


    The main objectives of program UGC4Life and
    #GreenStartsWithYou are:
    ● As a medium of sharing on the university's sustainability activities, research and innovation sustainability activities that take place at Universiti Teknologi MARA.
    ● As a medium for latest knowledge and technology on the sustainability
    ● Empowering the spirit of supporting the sustainability agenda, especially during the hardship of pandemic, for the future benefit of the younger generation

    SUSTAINABLE GREEN COMMUNITY

    UiTM Green Center (UGC), Infrastructure & Infrastructure Development Office, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) together with Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) has conducted the Sahabat Sungai Program to clean Sungai Langat, Kg. Kuala Pangson. This program was conducted in conjunction with the celebration of World Water Day 2021 and was implemented simultaneously throughout the country under the National River Trail (DSK) mega program, Ministry of Environment & Water (KASA). A total of 40 volunteers from UiTM and PAAB agencies have participated in this program. This program is one of the programs conducted by UGC to strengthen the knowledge and experience of nature more closely, as well as to realize UiTM as an eco-friendly campus and support the sustainability agenda at UiTM. In this collaboration, UiTM has become Sahabat Sungai in Sungai Langat, Kg. Kuala Pangson.

    GREEN TALENT & COMPETENCY ENHANCEMENT

    Green Talent and competency enhancement refers to the contribution of people management policies and activities towards a broader agenda on applying more effort on talent-management intiatives and will continue to do so during the next few years as external factors, such as the impending talent shortage, becomes more and more prevalent. It is obvious that top talent have a role to play in the pursuit of greener business practices, a role to save the planet for our future generations and impose green working practices and modify environmentally unfriendly behaviours.

    COLLABORATION & INDUSTRIAL LINKAGES

    UiTM Green Centre in the process of future collaboration with Kloth Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Founded and formed on the 11th of December 2013, Kloth Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (Kloth Malaysia) is a Malaysian social enterprise that keeps fabric and plastic away from landfills through a circular economy business model. This collaboration is aims to strengthen sustainable waste management in campus.

    The particular collaboration will include these areas:
    a. generating income from textile and plastic circular economy initiatives as well as plastic such as fabric and plastic collection buyback, profit/commission from sale of upcycled/ recycled products as well as any partnership with regard to technology development and commercialisation
    b. adoption of fabric and plastic recycling bins as part of centralised waste at the campuses; and collection is not limited to fabric and plastic, open for other types of recyclables with cost of the recycling infrastructures such as fabric bins, plastic recycling machines and other recyclable bins shall be addressed on case-by-case basis.

    UiTM Low Carbon Challenge (LLC) 2030

    Since its establishment, a concerted effort by UiTM Green Centre (UGC) has enabled it to accomplish many green initiatives. UiTM is committed to implement the low carbon cities framework program focusing on five GHG reduction elements: energy, mobility, waste, water; and greenery and water bodies. UiTM carbon commitment is to reduce 45% emission intensity by 2030 from the baseline year 2015. A carbon management plan is underway to enable UiTM to be Malaysia’s best Low Carbon Public University Model by 2030, while also striving for carbon-neutrality. Section 1 where main campus of UiTM is located and Five UiTM buildings were the diamond recipients of Low Carbon Emissions Challenge 2030.
